Travel Forums Europe Bratislava - airport to city

Hi I'm going to Bratislava this Thursday and arrive at the airport at 12.30 am. My host has told me that taxi drivers 'cheat' foreigners and she doesn't know of any reputable taxi companies to book me a cab. She has had bad experiences previously with guests and taxi's being charged extortionate fares! The other option would be to take the airport bus and then another bus to her home (takes just over an hour). She has kindly arranged to meet me at the bus stop. However, at this time of night after a very long day, I want to get to her place as quickly as possible! I really wanted to ask you what you would do in this situation? Or are there any Bratislavan taxi drivers reading this message lol! Thanks in advance!! :):)

My flight was diverted from Bratislava to Brno because of fog. I'd pre-booked a transfer online but, after a 3-hour delay my transfer (not surprisingly) wasn't there. It was 2am when the transfer bus from Brno arrived and there was just one taxi at the airport, so that was my only option. But the driver was lovely and the fare I paid was very reasonable, much the same as the pre-booked transfer, even though it was now the early hours of the morning. Tarring all Bratislavan taxis with the same 'rip off tourists' brush is simply wrong. Of course some taxi-drivers might rip you off but that can and does happen in every city everywhere.

Personally, I wouldn't fancy a 2-bus journey in the early hours, even assuming the second bus runs frequently through the night . So I suggest you explore the pre-booked transfer options online (there are several) and organise a transfer to your host's home. That way you'll know in advance exactly what you're paying. The quotes I've just looked at are around 15 euro one-way to all areas of Bratislava city, which seems very reasonable to me.

If you don't want to pre-book, I suggest you use the taxi company listed on the official airport website:

https://www.bts.aero/en/parking-and-transport/taxi-services/

I'd add that if your host lives in the city it seems to me very odd that she can't suggest a reliable taxi company. I think it more likely that she doesn't want to risk her guests being annoyed with her if they consider the fare too high.

Hi thanks for your advice I will certainly look into the transfer and taxi company to attached. I am not of the mind that all taxi drivers rip tourists off. However, this is my guests view and arriving at that time of night I don't want to risk it. I also thought it would be easy enough to contact a reputable company but apparently not! Thanks again

I'm sure it is and, as I said, I think that's just your host's opinion rather than a fact, though I'd always recommend taking a taxi which has a company sign on it (e.g. Yellow Taxis) rather than just a yellow taxi light on its roof.

If you really don't want to pre-book (you usually pay the driver rather than in advance) then you could just go with the taxi companies which have stands in the concourse, though I don't know whether the stands will be staffed at that time of night (they were certainly shut by 2am!). But, frankly, when arriving so late I'd prefer to pre-book because other people on your flight may have taken all the taxis before you get to concourse and if yours is the last flight most taxis won't return to the airport.

And then keep your fingers tightly crossed that your flight isn't diverted because of fog! :-)
