An organized tour of the Kamchatka Peninsula in some cases will be less expensive than an organized tour to some destinations in Europe. I took a tour of Kamchatka for 17 days in 2017 that included visits to Kurilskoye Lake (to see brown bears catching salmon) and hikes on several active volcanoes, including Tolbachik and Mutnovsky. We camped on them.

I returned earlier this month from 41 days on a cruise ship visiting French Polynesia, including New Caledonia, the Society Islands, the Tuamotu Islands and the Marquesas Islands. The ship also visited Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu, etc. The price was less expensive that some organized tours in Europe. A friend and I are rejoining the ship in August to visit the Solomon Islands, New Guinea (both sides), etc.

What really are expensive are cruises to the Arctic and Antarctic regions, such as ships that ply the Northwest Passage; and to other places such as the Ross Sea; Macquarie, Campbell and Auckland islands; and Franz Josef Land.

Private trips to remote places also can cost a bundle. Yet costs can be reasonable for private trips to some places such as lower and upper Mustang in Nepal; and tribal areas in Odisha and Chhattisgarh states in India.

Some travelers shun organized tours and cruises. But they make sense if they can get you where you want to go at reasonable cost. And, if you like your initial visit, you can always go back, which I have to many destinations over the last 4.5 decades.

I leave tomorrow for a short trip to Panama; then will make my way to Ukraine, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Lebanon, Egypt, Tunisia, Italy and Austria. Sadly, my friend and I were denied visas to Syria, so we are unable to join friends for a visit there.

After our 29-day Pacific cruise in September, we disembark in Sydney, then fly to Tasmania for a road trip. We then visit friends in Melbourne before flying to Invercargill, NZ, to make our way to Stewart and Ulva islands for bird watching.

Where would I like to go next? Central Asia (including Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan); West and Central Africa (including Guinea-Conakry, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Cote d'Ivoire, Nigeria and Chad); and northern South America (including French Guiana, Suriname and Guyana).

So much to see and experience, so little time!

We've seen such a lot of the world in the last 30 years. So no "Top 5" is left.
What we have not seen is not interesting for us, for example all Asien Countries. Because you cannot drive by yourself in most of that countries and going by busses in not a choice for us.

So in the last few years where we are able to travel we'll go to the "easy going" countries: USA, Canada, Chile, Argentina. Maybe once more Australia and Tasmania.

Hopefully we'll stay healthy and fit!!!!!

I know it's difficult in China, but it's certainly possible to drive yourself in lots of Asian countries.

So many places - so many options - so little time.

What are your next TOP 5 destinations to visit? Or you next TOP 5 if you would had a freedom to go anywhere, anytime, without any financial limitations?
.
:)

There are some destinations which I would like to visit but I think they are beyond me now. That is I don't think I am physically capable of going there anymore. I'm thinking particularly of the Galapagos and Manchu Pichu

Places that I have not been but I might be able to manage in no particular order
1) Iceland
2) New Zealand
3) Brazil
4) Oregon
5) Antartica

I'd also like to revisit California and Portugal. And I'd like to get back to Australia and see the Great Barrier Reef (I was too sick the last time I was there) and I didn't get to Uluru

You should certainly be able to manage Antarctica, as long as you double check with the tour company. There was a wheelchair user on our cruise and he was given all the help he needed to be able to get into the zodiacs to get close to shore, although I don't remember that he was able to land. But you still see so much in any case!

Don't totally rule out the Galapagos - a cruise would be difficult but you should look into land-based holidays there as maybe there are accessible options? A quick Google search led me to this: https://www.voyagers.travel/galapagoscruise-travelblog/discovering-the-galapagos-in-a-wheelchair/. Please don't delete the link, mods, as it's not promoting one particular company and I think Rosalie will find it useful

We always where warned when I asked such a question in different foren. Everybody told us, we should not drive oourselfs. Should we try it?

As I don't know anything about Asia, which country would you suggest? We are highly interested in natur and don't like so many people around us.
Is there any asian country where camping is possible?

Thank you
Beate

Australia rocks. It took me many decades to go, but worth the wait.

It might take me an decade too, or at least half an decade if everything goes as planned
