Everybody told us, we should not drive ourselfs. Should we try it?
I've no idea about camping but I certainly know of people that do.
Have a look on rideasia.net which is a motorcycle travel sit in that area.
Many of them are off-road riders but there are plenty of touring people/stories there as well.
Although IMO the cost of guest houses in asia (away from the tourist areas) would make camping a last resort option for me.
My 1st suggestion would be Thailand and Malaysia.
Driving there is an experience but isn't difficult provided you drive defensively.
Do not drive as fast as the empty road allows but only as fast as your eyes can guarantee your safety.
I'd hate to have to do a big distance in one day, but doing a short distance at a slow speed and enjoying the scenery is fun.
When I first drove in France (35 years ago) many people said it wasn't a good idea or that the main roads were OK but the small roads were a nightmare because of the french 'Priority' system, but all it took was time (do not rush) and concentration/awareness of other road users, just like driving anywhere else really, but more so...
If you've driven in Sth America then you already understand the 'Might is Right' system.
Although I've always stayed away from the bigger cities like Bangkok and KL where road systems can be too confusing for safety.

Also in that heat the thought of trying to sleep without a fan for at least some of the night would worry me.

Hi Andrew, thank you so much. Now I have a lot to think.
We were selfdriving almost everywhere in the world, but not in Asia. Maybe we'll try it now.

You should certainly be able to manage Antarctica, as long as you double check with the tour company. There was a wheelchair user on our cruise and he was given all the help he needed to be able to get into the zodiacs to get close to shore, although I don't remember that he was able to land. But you still see so much in any case!
Don't totally rule out the Galapagos - a cruise would be difficult but you should look into land-based holidays there as maybe there are accessible options? A quick Google search led me to this: https://www.voyagers.travel/galapagoscruise-travelblog/discovering-the-galapagos-in-a-wheelchair/. Please don't delete the link, mods, as it's not promoting one particular company and I think Rosalie will find it useful
Thank you very much. I'm not confined to a wheelchair (yet anyway) but that information is useful
I haven't planned much past this year. (Going on a 60th anniversary cruise with Bob and the children, and then taking a grandchild on a river cruise in France. After that a grandson is getting married in Florida in August). And I'm going to have a breast reduction (so I can stand up straight and breathe) and hip replacement sometime in the late fall, so maybe that will make me more mobile.
I almost got to the Galapagos with the grandson that is getting married but his parents didn't want him to do his scuba certification that young (he was 13) so we went on a Med cruise instead.
Other than mobility problems, my other problem is finding someone to travel with. Bob has become a stick-at-home and I've run out of grandchildren that are free to travel.

Incidentally the company that does accessible travel that I used in the Netherlands last year has refused to have me as a client anymore.

No, but believe you use one some of the time when you travel? And I figure if they can accommodate wheelchair users they can support most people with mobility challenges?

I hope the surgeries go well. Sounds like you have some nice trips planned too

I guess you need to work through the list of grandchildren again lol

To give you an idea of road behaviour and other tips there are a few youtube vloggers that have done road trips around parts of asia.
I can't think of a Malaysia one by car, but if you use the right word search on there then I'm pretty sure they're there.
Certainly there are a few in Thailand.
'eight miles from home' now live in Portugal I believe, but they were in Thailand 3 or 4 years ago and regularly did filmed road trips.

For me, it would be in no real order:
The rest of Australia beyond Sydney
Greenland
St. Helena island, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha islands in the South Atlantic
Mongolia
Stewart Island, New Zealand
