Plan to fly from Sydney to Hobart in late September for a Tasmania road trip with a rental car. Any advice? Looking at traveling from Hobart to Port Arthur, Swansea, Launceton, Wynyard, Stanley, Moina (Cradle Valley), Strahan and Hamilton. Have not yet decided on how many days. Appreciate any suggestions.

We did this 2 years ago. But we drove with a small camper. And that is so easy, because you can stay overnight almost wherever you want. We had 4 weeks and drove once around the island.

I did a similar route over a week on a tour and it felt a bit rushed. Myself I'd like to go back sometime and spend two weeks dawdling round.

Cradle Mountain was very nice, it put me in mind of Nelson Lakes in NZ. Good day hikes.

Strahan was lovely.

Port Arthur was interesting. The beaches on the east coast were a bit boring to me but that's me - and I missed seeing penguins because my Ex was impatient. I'm not bitter or anything. :)
