Hello. I have recently traveled from Charlotte NC to Chicago. It took 30 hours because of weather (nobody's fault) and United Airlines problems (late incoming aircraft and a braking system with default).
The supervisor in Charlotte (Joy J) made us pay for an excess luggage (we had 3 suitcases for 2 people) and we flew first class. At least United agreed to pay us back. Then we were yelled at by the same supervisor because we were not at the right place to wait for another employee to finish checking us in. When her colleague told her it was her who asked us to wait there, she went back to her office and slammed the door. We had to wait 3 hours on the phone (I have phone records) for them to rebook our tickets as due to bad weather we had to wait 24 more hours to travel. The next day the incoming aircraft was delayed and the braking system was too hot so we were delayed 2 hours which meant only 30 minutes to connect to our next flight. I have been asking for 2 weeks to receive a letter of apology from Joy J but United won't even answer. I do not want anything else. I have sent a letter to their CEO, chief of staff but they eon't even bother answering. Ever since I have been communicating on all social networks but without even the politeness to answer. I want everyone to know that today we have many choices of airlines, to me United is not one anymore.

Thanks for your airline rant, Nicolas. As travellers, we've probably all got something to say about an airline experience that didn't go to plan but it's not an ideal first post. Here's hoping you can make so more positive contributions to the forums in the future.

If he's joining forums to deliver this rant, chances are he won't be back.

I travel all the time. I definitely will be back as I want to share about my experience. Unfortunately for United it just happened so that's why I shared hpping someone will share some ideas on how I could get United to respond.

You're likely to get a better response if you filed your complaint via Twitter. Many businesses actively monitor their Twitter accounts.

Also, for future reference, it pays to have the apps of the airlines you frequently use on your mobile phone. For example, it's easier to rebook a flight with Delta Air Lines using its app. No need to make a phone call; no standing in line to see an agent. Just rebook your flight using the app.

I sympathize. We avoid United at all costs. The last couple flights we took with them were beyond awful and nothing really went wrong, just unpleasant service, lousy food and mildly delayed flights. Admittedly we fly cattle class but the flight attendants can be polite and the food can be edible. It's easier for us to just use another airline and that's what we do. I'm sure it won't bother United if we do business with someone else but it makes us feel better.

Thank you for your advise. I have used Twitter but with no luck. They do not care. I could not use the app because we had a connecting flight with a different airline and all tickets needed to be rebooked. There was no United rep in Charlotte and so the phone was the only option... Of course I will never fly with them again but I was hoping someone would know an efficient way to make them react.

Charlotte is a hub of American Airlines, so there are more flights (many nonstop) from CLT to Chicago (ORD). Most of United's flights from CLT to ORD are United Express flights operated by SkyWest or Republic Airlines, so that could be a factor in getting a timely response.

Hi Nicochan,

as I see you are European citizen, right?
So the most important question: was this mentioned flight part of an intercontinental flight to or from Europe?
If yes, you'd have the right for compensation through european law:
https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/travel/passenger-rights/air/index_de.htm

I only have the german text, but you could find the french or english text in the internet.

Thank you Beate. It was a domestic flight connecting to a European one with a different airline. I am only asking for a letter of apology. I will never fly with United again and we were treated so bad with my sick wife that I want to ensure they apologise formally.
