We're two women from US and Germany driving through Vancouver Island, SW British Columbia and Alberta Canada, starting mid August for 4 weeks. It's a road trip to explore the national and provincial parks: Pacific Rim NP, Jasper NP, Banff etc. We will hike most days with some excursions mixed in like glacier walk, paddle boat rental, sky tram and hot springs. We'll also spend some time in the cities, like Victoria and Vancouver, finding live music, entertainment, seeing art and architecture and trying restaurants. Accommodations will be a mix of airbnb, camping and hostels. No smokers. Prefer 25 and up. Message me with a bit about yourself and any questions.

The trip will be closer to 3 weeks than 4.

Do you already have booked your accommodations? Otherwise it would be difficult to get a room for reasonable price. All is fully booked for weeks.

Yes, we have reservations. Everything isn't fully booked though. We just made the final reservation last weekend.

Your german friend will need ETA. Don't forget it. It can take a few days till it is approved.
This is the only official website:

She's already in Canada, thanks! Are you from there or have you traveled there? You're offering advice so I figure it's coming from an informed place.

I live in Germany. But I travelled to Canada and USA about 20 times in the last years, every time about 4 - 5 weeks, partly with rental car and in the last years mostly with an RV.
We love the nature there.

That's fantastic. Do you have any recommendations for Jasper and Banff or Vancouver Island? I'm a bit worried about Icefields Parkway being filled up. All of the campsites are first come first serve. I don't want to drive around a long time looking for a place to camp when I could be hiking. Did you spend the night in that area and is there any strategy to getting a spot?

I don't know anything about Hotels, because it is to long ago since we stayed in one.

But as for campgrounds: most of the campground are reservable. Have a look here:

https://www.pc.gc.ca/en/pn-np/ab/jasper/activ/passez-stay/camping

My source is this website:

https://www.womo-abenteuer.de/map

If you zoom in you find a lot of campgrounds, reservable ones and fcfs.

It is in german, but that doesn't matter, because you can see fotos and reviews and the link to the campgrounds are in english.

For fcfs-campgrounds you would have to arrive very early. about 9 or 10 am, when the camper of the last days leave you could have a chance. But as you travel in the very high season it could be difficult.

We travel always late in the season, about end of septembre or later. And even than we had problems finding a campsite.
