Will be in Panama City July 2 - 9. Other than the canal, I am looking for recommendations for my husband and I (we are in our 60's, but physically fit)

Panama Viejo, not to be confused with Casco Viejo, is worth a look. Be prepared though, as this place is in full sun. Panama Viejo, in ruins, is the site of the original Spanish settlement in the area.

The malecon, or cycle path (Cinta Costera), is a great walk with some stunning views of the Panama City skyline. Uptown Panama City is home to a very large patch of gleaming skyscrapers - the view of all these skyscrapers from the malecon was a real surprise to us. The sheer size of this part of the city and the prosperity here simply wasn't what we were expecting.

Panama City has some of the best and most varied types of ceviche in the world - pop into the Mercado de Mariscos just north of Casco Viejo for plenty of no frills establishments serving up some very good value cups of fresh seafood. They make ceviche here with mango and mustard sauces as well as the familiar lemon or lime sauces - heaven on earth!

We loved the Metropolitan Nature Park as well.

For something really quirky check out the lobby of the Hotel Ideal just several blocks inland from the Mercado de Mariscos, on Calle 17. This hotel is a real throwback to the 1970's and is worth a look just for the lobby alone.

Also, the Cafe Coca Cola on Avenida Central near Casco Viejo serves up good basic food and is a real locals institution.

Thank you for the tips! I really love Ceviche (mostly have had Mexican) so it will be fun to try some new ones!
