I’ve done a lot of research on where to spend our Christmas holiday from Dec 21-31. We’d mainly want to go snowboarding every day and take lessons (we are beginners) but I think we also want to enjoy a European Christmas atmosphere since we've never been to Europe during the holidays. So we are thinking Austria would be great. What would be the best area for us to get in some good days on the slopes with guaranteed snow but also enjoy a quaint festive village? We’d probably stick to beginner/intermediate slopes only if that makes any difference.

Thanks in advance!

  • Austria
  • France
  • Italy

are good options. Andorra has great skiing, but I ma not convinced you will find the village Christmas atmosphere you are looking for.

Every ski area in Austria will have snowboarding lessons. There are so many resorts in Austria that hard to recommend as they all do cater to all levels and different types of holidays.

Various specific ski orientated review sites are helpful when reviewing each specific resort and their conditions.

I personally been:
Kaprun
Zell am See
Ellmau (Ski Welt area)

Saas Fee in Switzerland is great over Xmas, and is quieter than the rest of the season, with the current CHF exchange rate it will be expensive though, but worth it!

If you want to have a bit of european Christmas Atmosphere than go to Austria. And don't choose a Hotel, but stay in a small "Pension" (it's like a B+B). Ask the owner in advance, if they offer a christmas evening. Most do, and this is a beautiful experience.

Austria is also good, I remember a great holiday in Kirchberg, though it was maybe 20 years ago!

Thanks for the advice! So many options, thinking about Zell am See but worried if there’s enough snow since we’d be on the beginner slopes I’m not sure if those are lower down.

Also looking at Lech but it seems mega expensive.
