We are stopping over in Beijing for two days on our way to North Korea. The main purpose is to get over any jet-lag before the intensive tour in DPRK starts, and to have plenty of slack in the schedule in case of delays - if we miss our flight to Pyongyang, we miss the whole tour! But while we want to take it a bit easy there, we also of course want to see some sights! We have been to Beijing before but on a tour back in 1994. We'll try to revisit a couple of highlights from that tour, see how the city has changed and hopefully take in a few new places too. Top of the 'revisit' list is the Forbidden City and I'm wondering if it's a good idea to buy our tickets in advance as we have such limited time in Beijing? Have you done this and if so did you think it worthwhile? Or if not, did you live to regret not doing so?!

I'm also interested in restaurant recommendations in the Tiananmen Square / Wangfujing area please.

Thanks :)

Couple years ago while in Beijing we bought the tickets while in the city without any issues whatsoever.

Did you have to queue? If so, for how long? And at what time of year? Thanks

Was during month of February. Do not recall being in a queue any longer than any other attraction in the World.

Thanks. It's forecast to be 32 degrees there this weekend so I'm keen not to be standing in a queue in the hot sun if it's avoidable, but I guess that wasn't a problem in February!
