On my trip to Ireland planned for May, want to do either the Dingle Peninsular or Connemara.

Cant decide. Decision will ultimately decide final itinerary.

So, which should I do for first time to Ireland?

I believe you intend to use public transport and/or tours?

Neither the Dingle peninsula nor Connemara is particularly easy to get around by public transport. Buses exist, of course, but timetables can be both restricted and restrictive.

Personally, I would (and did) choose to explore Connemara, driving myself. The landscape is wild and beautiful, there is much historical interest and the Gaeltacht itself is fascinating.

The Dingle peninsula is also beautiful but much more visited. It is also easier to access via organised tours.

Yes, either would be with a tour. Dingle from Kilarney and Connemara from Galway.

Also, leics2, would you be the leics I recall from VT?

Of course I am, Stephen. A quick look at my TP profile page would almost certainly have confirmed your suspicions.

We loved Connemara. We had a car but did take two different bus tours from Galway to save on driving every day. It is wild and wonderful and very friendly. The two bus tours from Galway were great fun. They were buses full of Irish families who were exploring their own country and the drivers were both very good and great fun. We stopped often for photos. Highly recommended.

Enjoy Ireland.

Stephen. Welcome to Travellerspoint. There are lots of former VTers here. Glad to see you here.

What airport are you flying to and from ? This would have influence how you are planning to get to Kerry as there are flights from DUB.

They are two very different areas when it comes to the scenery:
Kerry/ Ring of Kerry is super beautiful place. Well visited. People say it can be crowded but this is the charm when going out in the evening for few drinks and pubs have plenty going on. So much more fun when other people around and you can have a chat.
Connemara is completely different scenery and more wild and rugged landscape. Very harsh, but very beautiful also. While it can be less busy than Kerry let say, but the growing popularity for the Wild Atlantic Way route brings fair amount of tourist here.

There is no right or wrong - just two very different areas and both well worth of visiting.
