Thanks to EVERYONE for their travel opinions and for their reminders/tips (time zone differences, mileage vs time required to drive, reservation chances, etc.). I am printing this thread, and meeting this Friday, with the others that are going. This will surely help us to make a more informed decision!!!:)

Sounds good. Mentioned earlier but worth another reminder is that you could have some snow in the upper elevations (Bryce and the South Rim). Probably no big deal as far as park roads go, though.

You will be using mandatory park shuttles (or hiking the rim trail on foot, as I have) for the 8 miles of Hermit Road and overlooks west of Grand Canyon Village out to Hermits Rest lookout. With the exception of Yaki Point, you'll use your own wheels for all overlooks east of the village/main visitor center out to Desert View lookout. There's also 5 miles of rim trail you can hike on this side as well.
