This study was done on USA airlines but it doesn make you wonder what the results would be if they replicated this internationally:

Airline Water Study 2019

When I travelled on Scoot airlines they didn't give bottled water. Instead they had a water dispenser (I'm assuming connected to a tank) that you would use to fill up an empty bottle you had to bring yourself. Hopefully in that case they are more stringent on tank water quality.

I knew about problems with water and never drink any water served in a cup on a plane. But I am a coffee drinker and do drink some hoping that boiling the water kills off any biological problems. (Maybe wishful thinking!!) For water only if in a bottle!

Another airline problem - dirtiest place on a plane is .................................

"With 2,155 microbes per square inch, the table tray is far dirtier than a typical airplane toilet seat, making it an extremely unsanitary surface to eat your food from ..

I always travel with wet-wipes and hand sanitizer. I use a paper towel to turn the door latch on toilets and close the door. I am a little tall and reach to the highest part of the door when closing it.

Over the years I have found "stuff" that I suspect was a diaper (I did not check) and even a hypodermic needle in the pocket. I have sat next to people who put food right on the tray and then eat it. This is after they see me clean my tray off. Sometimes they put little pieces of candy for their kids - blehhh!! Even when you tell them the trays are not sanitary they look at me like I had 6 eyes!

Always something to think about when on a long flight.

That is probably because they think like I use to think that the trays get at least some spray and wipe. I never thought they were thoroughly scrubbed down but I had assumed they squirted some sort of disinfectant between flights. Obviously it turned out we were wrong.

The one that didn't surprise me was the airport security trays. Of course they are the dirtiest place in an airport! Who has ever seen them being taken away to be cleaned?
