I get travel warnings from around the world that has to do with natural disaster and protests.

Is it an app that gives you these warnings?

No, I do travel arrangements at work. So I have a TMC or Travel Management Company that sends me updates on what is happening. They are often very detailed and come quickly. One time I got an update on a guy with a knife in the Amsterdam airport...I had a guy who was there at the time and knew about it before he did. I was able to contact him and make sure he was alright.

Not exactly related, but I just had to reschedule my plans for Christmas and New Years in Chile because of the protests... When I booked everything, I would never imagine such thing happening :(
The worst part was hearing from the airline that they couldn't refund me for this reason. Like, if that's not reason enough! Fortunately they had to change my flights, so that was what got me the right to request the refund. Now we're planning to stay in Brazil and go on a road trip

With most airlines they will not refund your ticket. But that does not make the ticket go away. Typically you can change the ticket for a fee. Sometimes the fee is $200-$300, but you can change it.

Yes, I believe you are correct. I do understand their position, but what can we do? That's a situation beyond our control and against our will. It's senseless to expose my family and I to a risky context like this, regardless of how bad I wanted to make this trip. I think they could at least provide the change with no extra charges. But oh well, fortunately it's all solved now
