Hello,

Next weekend I'll be going to Los Angeles. Unfortunately I lost my purse couple days ago, now I am wondering if it's possible to check in without ID or passboard. I could bring a copy of my passboard, but is that enough?
Thanks for your help:)

It would really help to know your nationality and whether you're flying domestically or internationally? And what airline? The airline website will list their ID rules.

I'd say it's not possible if you fly internationally. You'll need your passport and the ESTA connected with the passport-number.
Better ask the airline ASAP.

Sry, I wrote that a bit unclear.
I am German but I am already in California, because I go to College here. So next weekend I am going to LA, and I was wondering if I can check into a hotel with a copy of my passboard.
Thanks:)

I personally don't want anyone boarding the same plane I am flying on without proper ID!

(Fill out your profile.)

Are you a US citizen? All new drivers licenses in the US must be REAL compliant by October 2020. Some states are issuing them now. (I had to get one.) Get a replacement drivers license if a US citizen and still home.

Okay.

What are you doing to replace your passport? Contact your embassy yet?

Do you have a school photo ID?

Freddy, in your case the only possibility is to ask the airline directly.

Did you report your lost of the passport to the german embassy? Maybe they can give you a temporary passport?

Oh OK, I just see, it is only for checking in to a Hotel? not a flight????
I can imagine that the Hotel will accept your copie or even your drivers licence. We mostly show only the drivers licence.

Why not just phone the hotel, explain the situation and ask if they will accept a copy of your passport as ID? You could also take any other form of photo ID you have, such as your student ID.

I hope you have already contacted the German embassy in the US to organise a replacement passport?

Call the hotel. You will need some form of ID if you plan to fly from one place in California to another like LA. If you have the new compliant California driver's license, that will work domestically. If you're German, you may not have a California driver's license though. If you're flying, contact your airline. For hotel information, call the hotel. We've not had to show ID for hotels in the USA so you may not need anything.

You simply won't know unless you call. We can all make educated guesses but we can't say for sure since we don't know how you are getting to the hotel, nor the hotel and its policies.

You definitely do need to get your passport replaced though and the sooner you do it, the better.
