Hi I’m traveling to Sydney from Ireland on a working holiday visa by myself in the new year. I’ve booked a hostel for my first two weeks there but I’m a bit nervous as it’s my first solo trip. I was just wondering wher other people went from their in their experience. How did they find longer term accommodations or would they stay in a hostel for a couple of months before they moved on to a new city (I’m not overly picky when it comes to accommodation). How did people meet new friends? And I was wondering what are people’s tips to finding work when they get there. Thanks for your help, just a little nervous as my flights comes closer haha

Hiya mate,

Common question but honestly, do not worry. You will meet people within minutes of arriving. Which hostel are you staying at? I stayed at Wake Up when I first arrived, banging hostel, clean, tidy, had everything you needed and Side Bar underneath it was a great place to meet people, and from what I remember the food was good too!! They ran different nights and competitions so get involved with them too!

Base Hostel was another great place I stayed, and was great for meeting people too!

I stayed in Sydney for a month, then traveled the East Coast, but decided I wanted to go back to Sydney and work for a bit. I got myself a job in a Restaurant, and then found permanent accommodation in Pyrmont, which is right next to Darling Harbour, very affordable, great views, decent room in a house share! Remember that when looking for more stable accommodation, whilst its nice for your block to have a gym, pool, rooftop views etc etc the novelty will wear off, and you will be tied into paying rent for things you wont use!

Hope this helps!
