Hello everyone. Hubby and I are doing a trip from Australia to Las Vegas. From there we were thinking of doing a few days in Mexico. Then a few days in
Hawaii ( only because it’s the half way point getting home) my question? Where should we go in Mexico? We are in our late 50s if that helps.....if you have any ideas on a different stop over on the way home I’m happy for your ideas

Mexico City seems a likely first destination from many points in the the U.S. A few days for Mexico isn't much time.

Your age doesn't help at all in suggesting where to go while in Mexico, or what to do while there - some ideas on what interests you both would.

Food. Local history. Flying in from Las Vegas

Allow me to look into where you can fly in to Mexico from Las Vegas. I wouldn't suggest a multi-leg flight in this case, so a direct flight to a destination in Mexico would be best.

You can fly to Monterrey (seasonal), Guadalajara, or Mexico City direct from Las Vegas. It looks like you can fly to Leon as well beginning this spring. I see Volaris and VivaAerobus, two good Mexican budget carriers, offer flights from LAS.

If local history is of interest, I suggest either Guadalajara or Mexico City. Both make great choices, however I must give the nod to Mexico City for the overall variety of everything there.

Consider more than a few days in Mexico - there is much to see in both the cites I suggest and food, lodging, transportation and sights/sights/activities are very, very inexpensive compared to the U.S.

Thank you all. Mexico City seems the way to go

I would avoid the cities along the US-Mexico border, as they are centers of drug cartel activity with frequent murders and kidnappings.

Although you are Aussies, you might check the U.S. State Department's website for travel cautions in Mexico.

Consider flying from Las Vegas to Hawaii, Vegas is very popular with many Hawaiians, in fact there are a couple of hotels that cater mainly to that clientele and flights are fairly frequent. You could fly into either LA or San Francisco, whichever is cheaper. Also if you plan on doing any shopping like many Aussies do, Vegas has two outlet malls.
Mexico is a huge country, you could also spend time in the Riviera Maya visiting ruins, and swimming in cenotes. Merida has very good museums and culture, although if you are going mainly for the history, I guess Mexico City would also be a good choice. Both areas have good food.

HNL-LAS is a very popular route. Hawaiian Airlines offers nonstop flights. I'm flying Tuesday to HNL from LAS on Hawaiian Airlines. Hawaiian also flies to Australia, New Zealand and elsewhere in the Pacific. In Las Vegas, you'll find popular Island food, such as oxtail soup, at the California Hotel and Casino.

At the moment it seems like we will be doing 7 nights Las Vegas. Then 5 nights Hawaii......why oh why is it so expensive.
The Aussie dollar is terrible against the U S dollar.
