Has anyone been to Nördlingen, Bavaria, Germany? I've always wanted to go there because of the Willy Wanka and the Chocolate Factory movie with Gene Wilder. Part of my "bucket list" of places to go to.

I have, but only once and that was ages ago. Nördlingen has a beautiful old town, surrounded by an (almost) complete medieval town wall on which you can walk. It is just as beautiful as the more famous Rothenburg ob der Tauber but less touristy. It certainly warrants a visit!

Besides, there is also the geology of this landscape: Nördlingen is located inside a meteorite crater. The circular ridge is still clearly visible. I remember that we visited some kind of museum where all this was presented and explained, must have been this one: http://rieskrater-museum.de/index.php/de/ (wwebsite in German only, sorry).

My parents went in the 60s. I think my dad's publisher was there. They had some beautiful photos from there.

I have (it is not far from where i live).
It is on the Romantische Straße (the Romantic Road), and it is a very pretty small town.
Most people visiting the area also visit other nearby towns (such as Rothenburg). And, if not pressed for time, they also visit the famous Neuschwanstein Castle.
It is a very beautiful area of Germany.....you will love it!
