Hey all,

Heading to New Zealand July-ish of this year, and will be going via Sydney. Been looking at places to spend few days to break the journey up a bit and have heard a lot of good things about Singapore.

Has anyone got any information they can share? Visa help, places to stay, places to visit etc. Rough idea of day to day costs would be great too!!

TIA

Grant

Singapore is more expensive than previous countries (Southeast Asia) you asked about on your other posts. Read some of the generic information you got on your previous posts and choose what applies. Expect to spend more for accommodation in Singapore than Thailand for similar quality place.

Nearby Malaysia will be cheaper than Singapore.

I kind of like my visit to Malacca. Normal Google type search will give you something that might catch your interest. Check out a Hawker Center for cheap food.

The last hotel I used was the South East Asia Hotel (on Waterloo Street) which was double the price for a similar quality hotel in Bangkok.

Bangkok is twice as big as Singapore. Look into a side trip to KL, Malaysia. Look into Penang, Malaysia. Train service from Johor Bahru Sentral to KL and Penang available.

If flying Singapore Airlines to your destinations, consider its Singapore Stopover Holiday package. Cost is reasonable.

I wasn't no, I was going to fly Emirates or Etihad, what sort of service do Singapore Airlines offer?

Go the Singapore Airlines web site for information on the stopover packages that include accommodations, one-way transport from the airport to the hotel; and admission to several attractions, including Gardens by the Bay.

Please note that Changi airport offers several attractions of its own, including a butterfly garden. It also offers a free three-hour bus tour of Singapore if your layover is at least 5.5 hours but under 24 hours. See the airport's Web site for more information.

Some attractions in Singapore are free, including the Botanic Gardens (although there is a modest admission fee to the National Orchid Garden). The evening light shows at Gardens by the Bay are free. It's a pleasure to walk around to see the city's spectacular architecture. Stroll through the Marina Sands Hotel to the ArtScience Museum and proceed to the Esplanade and elsewhere.

You can see and experience a lot in two or three days, or less.
