I think you're right that he can just wait. I just feel like Princess knows it will be cancelled but is hoping that stressed people will choose to bail early.

If someone books a cruise, they should always book with a cruise specialist travel agent. If he had done that, a good travel agent would intercede with the cruise line, and would also have explained the insurance question to him. You can get insurance that gives you a full refund for any reason. It is a little more expensive, but if you have a sick family member and might have to abort the cruise to go back home to take care of things, the insurance will give you peace of mind.

I did my first two cruises without an agent. But I learned (slowly to be sure, but I did learn) what the advantages were to using an agent. Since the cruise lines still pay agents a commission, it doesn't cost anything to use an agent, and they can often get extra perks for you. In addition to that, they can go to bat with you if the something happens. I used the same agent from 2007 until 2017 (when he died), and he always did a good job for me. I'm now using his friend as an agent for the ocean cruises.

Yeah I too facing difficulties right now. I had planned to send my son to china for higher studies. But right now ,it is not possible I think.Since health should be our major priority, We have to wait for a while .;)
