Hi everybody! Nice to meet you all. I'm Tom from the UK, 41. I want to plan/book a trip to Croatia to surprise my wife for her birthday in early September.
All suggestions are welcome. Where to go, what to do, where to stay... maybe an agency or two if all my plans fail miserably

Over the past couple of days I must have deleted twenty spam messages promoting agents in Croatia. Seems to be the latest industrial spammer to have found the site.

So while advice is great, listings of agencies are likely to be flagged as spam.

Oh no. Well, then I would like just some suggestions of destinations. ;)

In the meantime fill out your profile so we know a little more about you.

An old fashioned printed travel guide you buy or check out of a library can be useful.

Only you know how much money in your budget for your travel. More money more stuff you can do and more money for fancier hotels.

Some tourists begin their research in one or two of their hometown travel agencies too. Or do some planning with a simple Google search.

Good luck.

Zagreb's an interesting city for a few days. There are daily free walking tours (for tips at the end) that give a good insight into the place.

Plitvice Lakes national park is a series of lakes flowing through limestone terraces, a visit takes a couple of hours.

Split was the site of Roman emperor Diocletian's palace, all white shining limestone. Some history to see, and by night lots of bars and clubs. Beaches had more cigarette butts than sand when I went!

Dubrovnik is a Venetian walled city, so is Korcula but rather smaller and prettier in my opinion.

But I gather most people go to Croatia for beach holidays, which I can't offer any advice about.

I have been to Plitvice lakes a couple of years ago. It was really crowded but worth it. Some time we plan to visit Krka waterfalls and hopefully get a chance to swim under the waterfall itself. Have you done it maybe?

Also I have been to both Dubrovnik and Split with a couple of stops along the way and I can only say that both destinations are worth seeing. If you have time go to Mljet Island and visit a national park there.
This summer we are heading to Istria peninsula to visit Rovinj and Pula. and again a couple of islands close. Of course, we will go to Brijuni as we love national parks and croatia is full of them.
I would love to give you a suggestion for a travel agency but I'm not sure if I can do it here.

The best are Zadar, Rijeka and Dubrovnik areas. You can also take Zagreb into consideration as well as neighboring Slovenia.

No, you can't! You're a first-time poster and, as AndyF has already pointed out, the set up of this thread looks ripe for dropping spam - and a suggestion for a travel agency is exactly that.
