I am visiting Melbourne, Australia for a few days in May and would like to do a city tour. The ones on TripAdvisor don't seem to have particularly great reviews and so I am wondering if anybody has any good experiences and/or recommendations. I am on a bit of a budget and so can't be doing helicopters and personal tours. I usually do hop-on, hop-offs when I go somewhere new and so am looking for something along those lines - a general all-round city tour.

There is the historical tram on the City Circle line. It is free and you can hop on and off at various stops. The tram is a sight in itself. I don't remember for sure but according to the website there is a commentary: https://www.visitmelbourne.com/regions/melbourne/travel-information/getting-around/public-transport/city-circle-tram

Map with the route and stops: https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/route/1112/35/

I will recommend a local tour that is a nature tour, Echidna tours. We took the day tour and we were able to go to a sanctuary where the public is not running around and see kangaroos, many kinds of birds, emus, and an expert explanation of the foliage. Then we had a nice lunch and drove to another area, where we saw koalas in the wild. They have names for the different wild koalas and know the history of the bears in the wild. Transportation is provided to and from Melbourne. This group has been winning national awards for their work with nature. It also made the zoo boring after wards.

Take a wine tour. The wine in Melbourne's Yara Valley is some of the best ever!!!
