Hi, I'm planning a trip to Costa Rica with my friend Fernando in May, can you recommend a Timeshare to choose ? The place must be in a safe area that is not a potential scam or fraud with zillions of timeshare vendors on the street, the place has to have ocean front and fine restaurants close by, any recommendations on this are also welcome, thanks.

I asked a Costa Rican travel agent about the possibility of some time shares I found on a time-share site. Even though they were cheap, none of them were really suitable because they were not in desirable areas and did not have many amenities. My oldest grandson's SO rented a house for a month which had a pool and they had a good time there - it wasn't ocean front, but was close and was in an area with good restaurants etc. This was near the Liberia airport on the west coast. Another friend did the same on the east coast for a shorter period of time.

Thanks greatgrandmaR, I will look into those options. regards.

My experience, although not as recent, was similar to GreatGrandma's, almost all of the timeshares we could trade our Marriott unit into were not in very desirable areas. You would need a rental car to stay at almost all of them, we did drive past one of them, Villas Playa Samara near a nice beach but a good 10 minute drive into town.
Are you looking to trade a week you own, or renting a week from someplace like Redweek?
We ended up just renting a car and traveling around to 3 areas in Costa Rica and traded the timeshare into a place in Puerto Vallarta.

Terri, Have you checked booking.com? It's available right here on TravellersPoint and a great web site for accommodations. Use the filters for apartments which are similar to time shares. I just checked for a random week in May and there were a lot of options in different price ranges.

Go to the MENU and scroll down to ACCOMMODATIONS or click here: TravellersPoint Accommodations Guide

Each entry will have a map and you can also use the address on Google Maps.

Good luck and have a great vacation.
