When I tried to log on to travellerspoint this morning, I kept getting a message that I had been blocked. This has never happened to me before. Was it just me? Was it everyone and why was I blocked?

No, it's everyone. The site was under attack by spam bots. It's still mostly locked down. Briefly reopened which is probably when you managed to log in :)

I'm making some adjustments to the login checks, especially for logins from new IP addresses. Once that's done, I'll open it back up fully.

Oh I see. Glad it wasn't just me. Good luck with fixing it.

Well, logins are back up and running.

From now on, all your accounts are secured with IP checks as well. The first time you log in from a new IP address, you will receive a verification code sent to you via email. You will need to copy that code and paste it into the login process.

With that done, you should be able to log in again as normal. And next time you log in, providing it is an IP address that we know you have verified, you will not get that extra step.

I acknowledge that this can be a nuisance when travelling. Not sure what to do about that.

This needed to happen right now though as there are a LOT of login requests trying to hack into old accounts happening at the moment. This should really lock that down neatly.

If anyone reading this is having trouble logging in with this new setup, please do get in touch via the contact form

Thank you for sorting it. I seem to have been able to get back on without any problems.

Probably if you had the "Remember me" box ticked, you'd get back in. Hopefully that is not a problem for the spam situation. I'll be monitoring that one closely.

I've just tried and failed to log in on another device. It says I don't exist. :-/

I've used the contact form link above and chose 'Technical problem' as the heading. Is that the right heading to get the message to you, Peter?

Glad I came across this thread. I got some weird code when I tried to click on a link to a forum reply in an email earlier (on my phone), although it seems OK now. Thanks for putting the extra measures in place Peter - it will be worth a bit of hassle now and then if it keeps the spammers at bay!

Quoting Peter

The site was under attack by spam bots.

I must say I was horrified last night, when I saw dozens of "members" with no profiles, similar "credentials" (alleged Indonesia origin) and advertising of their websites.
Thanks, Peter, for fixing the problem
Fingers crossed!

Take care
Vic

Hmm well, clearly you do exist, haha :) I've sorted that problem now - you should be able to log in. Can you try again?

The contacting via contact form is only necessary if you can't respond to this thread (ie.. you couldn't log in)
