I lost my backcard in SA. My bank back home issued a new one to my parents and Im now wondering what are the best options for them to get it to me. Is express posting to any hostel or hotel safe or is it beter to pick a expencive one? Anyone had the same thing and how did you solve it?

I had exactly the same problem. In the end a friend of mine was coming out to SA so they brought it with them for me, but you have a couple of options if this isn't possible;

  • Post it - not guarantee it will get there, and not insured & it will take a while. Not insured if it gets lost.
  • Fed Ex it - when I asked Fed Ex about this for mine, they said they would take it, but it was not insured if it got lost and someone used it. Normally your credit card company covers you if someone uses your card fraudulently, but if you post it and this happens, most companies will no longer cover any loss, so its a risk.

Neither method is completely guaranteed, and Fed Ex is expensive but a lot safer than the post. If you can't find anyone that is coming your way and could bring it out for you then Fed ex / USP etc is probably the best idea.

another thing to consider:

better fed ex it to a big city or even better pick it up at the fedex central ( at the airport ) in that particular city you are in. thats just to avoid the smaller transport ways on which it gets lost or stolen or whatever.

as long as your using some one like DHL, Fedex etc I wouldnt worry, the delivery man gets hundreds of packages.

All these packages are tracked via their websites and usually have to be signed for etc, chances of you being ripped off are very small.
