@...how do I tag people!

LOL a trip to the grocery store! I feel that!

I did a quick search on the site and then went to Google for a way to tag people and...I didn't find anything.

I'm sure it's around here somewhere. Oh well, it'll give me something to do in the morning, along with uploading my grocery trips.

Welcome all. I was a refugee here from Virtual Tourist when that site closed down a few years ago, as were a number of other people. The FAQ page will help you get to grips with things (https://www.travellerspoint.com/faq.cfm) or you can ask for help in the System Talk area of the forum.

I'm not sure what you mean about tagging people - is it in the Facebook sense? If so, no, that isn't a feature here and I'm not sure how it would work. But if you friend someone you can get notifications whenever they post a new blog entry, and your home page feed will highlight activity by your friends too. Would that help?

Hi, Sarah. I just noticed your DPRK blog, I’ve always wanted to visit and its certainly on my reading list for the weekend. I also noticed a Seattle visit too, and I have one planned for September, so that’s on the reading list too. Thanks for your welcome and confirmation that tagging (alerting another member by mentioning their handle) isn’t a function here. New ways!

Yes, we VT exiles had to get used to new ways too when we joined. There's lots that's great about this site - have you discovered the travel map yet? Peter, who runs it, is very responsive to adding new features to meet the needs of new members (he added the tips function when ex-VT members were missing it) but I'm not sure how tagging would work. What you could do is add a link to the person's profile page using the icon above (6th from the left, like a green globe with a link in front of it, not the one that looks like just a link). You highlight the name, click on that icon and copy the url of their profile page (which you'd need to open in a separate window) into the pop-up box. But they wouldn't get an alert, like you do if you tag on FB, so only worthwhile if you want to direct readers to their page for some reason.

Glad you spotted my N Korea blog - it was a fascinating trip and one I'd highly recommend. Let me know if you have any questions the blog doesn't answer!

Greetings refugees! Glad to have a place to reconnect. I'm sure we will figure it out and adjust.

Just wandered in from Insiders also... thanks for setting this up. I'll take a look around, but so far it seems friendly and interesting

:)

Greetings Ann and nmb- I am hoping this will provide a similar experience to Insiders, although there is some learning to be done!

Welcome all new refugees! You're the fourth travel site which has shut down in recent years where members decided to move here.

When the first influx happened, I wrote a short guide to the site. I just updated it to account for a UI overhaul which happened last year. This should be a decent first entry to most of the main features you can find on this site.

We strive to be friendly an welcoming, particularly to new members. It's explicitly okay here if a question has been asked a 99 times before. If you don't feel like answering it for the hundredth time, just don't do so, and someone else will. We strongly frown upon responses in the vein of "read the FAQ, n00b!", a friendly pointer to another thread where the question has been answered is okay, but we prefer a personal response that's actually tailored to the specific circumstances of the person who asked the question.

Many (though certainly not all) members on the site have independent travel as their focus, so that's quite different from the focus which it sounds like most of you have, but that's okay. More diversity in shared travel experiences can only broaden our horizons.

Do be careful when you're just starting out here that we have zero tolerance for promotional posts in all forms, and both human members and automated systems which run behind the screens are pretty trigger happy with flagging posts for moderator review where any spammy purpose is suspected, which is sadly really necessary to keep this place tidy. Undoubtedly with an influx of new members there'll be some false positives with flagged posts, for which you have our apologies in advance. We'll work to clear that up as swiftly as possible!
Once we've gotten to know you, and trust that your purpose for being on the site isn't to promote any specific organization, you'll have a lot more leeway in posting.

If you have any questions on how things work here, feel free to ask them. And as Sarah said, Peter the admin tends to be very responsive to small improvement requests, or even large ones if he can find the time for them and sees the value for the membership as a whole.

Good morning from the East coast! This is Sledchick. Thank you so much for finding a place for the "Insiders Refugees". I still can't bring myself to type "Bonvoy". It seems to now mean "Bon Voyage with a middle finger sticking up" after yesterday's announcement.

Thanks for the welcome sanders and yes, I’ve already been alerted about promotional posts, but there’s no need to worry about us on that point, nobody will be posting promotions for any kind of reward - certainly we will undoubtably be talking about point or mile promos we use or are planning to use, not just Marriott, most of us are members of other programs including of course hotels.com that allows booking of smaller independents with a 10% credit for later stays, that’s how I booked my unique long weekend in Kotor, Montenegro! But these are simply likely to be mentioned in threads, rather than the reason behind them. Of course a big global promotion by a hotel group could get us quite animated!
Many of us travel extensively for business but all of us are travel junkies. I love my travel whether it’s 3 weeks in China in Shanghai, Beijing and X’ian with bullet trains, maglev and sleepers or a night away for work in Slough. Of course I prefer the China to the Slough, but in my mind all travel is an experience. Thanks again for your welcome...
