I'm not really a "ticker" and I usually find ticklists of popular destinations visted to be a bit inane. They're usually full of beach resorts and a few regional more exotic ideas that seem to miss the bigger picture and all the interesting world out there.

A friend just posted this link on her Facebook wall and I thought some of you may appreciate it, for ideas or just as a bit of a more interesting ticklist. My friend scored 10/100 and I think I score 13/100.

I only made it to 10. It would have been a bit higher if we'd have been able to do the Namibia trip we'd intended last year, as there were quite a few places there on the list.

Yes I thought the author had a bit of a Namibia thing going on! I guess it's hard not to bring bias into these things - my list would be full of Scotland, Norway and NZ.

Embarrassed to say I was 2/100! :(

I assume it's a list of the places that the author has visited that they regard as obscure. If it were based on my travels, I'd have more places like the Falklands, Antarctica and Transnistria. We don't get to many of the truly obscure though, as we mostly travel on public transport, which often doesn't make it out to them. Managed to pick up a few on the list from New Zealand because we hired a car there.

4 for me as well, though I'm fairly certain they are different from your 4.

Yeah, I got 0/100......
But Finland get in to it (Kuortane and Olavinlinna) so I like that ticklist!

My boyfriend accuse me of being an ticker but I wouldn't describe it quite like that. IMO there is so many place worth visiting and so little time (I don't get much time off from work) so I like to go everytime somewhere new :)

Disproportionately, I think 11 out of those 100 are in New Zealand (it must have come from one of your Kiwi friends, AndyF) and I'm sorry to say that I've only been to one of those - Paihia (home of the Waitangi grounds where the Treaty of Waitangi was signed by the Maori and the Crown). But, based on the full list of 100, I get 17% - an abject failure on any assessment!

Aleppo, Barron Falls, Chobe, Dolmabahçe Palace, Golden Triangle, House of the Blackheads, Kakadu National Park, Kasane, Krak Des Chevaliers, Okavango Delta, Paihia, Taj Lake Palace Hotel, Trakai Castle, Ubud Monkey Forest, Ummayad Mosque, Varanasi, Water Wheels of Hama, Wexford.

Nothing there in Northern Africa, Central America or South America and a heavy reliance on New Zealand, Australia, Syria, Namibia and Botswana. But it was something to while away a good twenty minutes!

I thought you'd like it Steve, but my friend is from Bristol and she wasn't the actual author of the list anyway so the NZ stuff must be there on its own merits. :)

As the original list was 100 obscure places that the author could tick, why don't we play that game? Write our own list of the best wide-ranging places to see?
