As far as tracking goes I don't mind being sent an email asking where I am. An email that I can respond to using my laptop. I do not want to travel with any smart phone, don't have one and don't want one! (Over the years I have had several computers both Mac, old XP and now Windows 10 laptops. I do travel with a small laptop.)

When you enter through immigration they have a record of where you are from and for some countries a record of where you are going next. They have an idea when you will leave too. Some hotels I have been in made copies of the passport info page and had to report their tourist arrivals to proper authorities.

It might be easier to have a chip inserted in everyone's arm or butt so tracking could be less trouble.

As for longer term, I already accept that Google knows where I am at all times...

Of cource, google knows but if you don't have an access to the Internet in another country?

My ISP thinks I live in D.C. because that's where my provider is. Whenever I ask for a place "near" to me, I always get D.C. in spite of the fact that I live at least 60 miles and over an hour from there. So I don't have faith that google would know especially if I didn't have a cell phone.

I'm generally ok with installing an app that tracks me. I'm pretty sure most of what I have on my phone does that already anyway. The advantage of the tracking apps with regard to COVID is that it would theoretically also notify me if I had been exposed to a potential COVID carrier who has also installed the app.
Making it mandatory certainly feels a little bit Orwellian to me, but in all likelihood I'd probably still do it unless I felt it was significantly impacting my day-to-day life in a negative manner. Perhaps I should be more concerned with my privacy, but I never really have been and so far I have not found that to be problematic.

New Zealand now has a Covid-19 tracker app. Over the last two weeks we've had just three new C-19 cases and no deaths for three weeks. But there's still a 14-day quarantine period for any NZ resident returning to the country - and we are closed to non-residents.
