I am a TP supporter and therefore don't see ads on the site - or at least, I don't normally do so! But today I noticed ads on the right hand panel of one friend's blog entries and I'm sure I'd have spotted them if they'd been there previously. I checked that I was logged in while viewing them (I was) and checked whether I also saw them on other friends' blogs (I didn't). Has anyone else had the same experience?

Sorry, no. I only see advertisements when I forget to log on.

Which friend/blog? It's possible to manually add linked images to the sidebar of your blog (manage -> links), so it's possible that that's what you're seeing - not advertising originating with travellerspoint at all, but images purposefully uploaded by this friend, which happen to look like advertising, but are static and don't do any tracking or other evil stuff generally associated with online advertising.

It's happening on blogs by Ils1976, such as this one: https://ils1976laos.travellerspoint.com/9/. It seems to be happening in all her entries in that blog, Laos and Cambodia with a Thai Ending, but not in her other blogs - all very odd!

And the ads aren't static, they change periodically, mostly switching between an ad for earwax removal and one for support garments! Also, they have the little blue 'Adchoices' arrow and cross top right. If I could add a screenshot to a forum thread, I would ;)

I'm seeing the same as Sarah on that page.

I'm seeing the same as Sarah on that page.

So at least I'm not going mad

I see it as well (well, I don't, as I block ads, but I see that there's something that's intended to be loaded there); that's indeed a real ad, by google. I assume it's an oversight by Peter that ads on blogs aren't disabled for supporters. (Another possibility: We used to have a feature that blog owners could gain the ad revenue for their own blogs, but I think that the underlying program for that was discontinued by google, and thus no longer there.)

But it's only on that blog, it seems - not even on other blogs by the same member. So I suspect it's more likely to be some sort of bug, no?

I do see the code to load ads on other blogs by this member, e.g.
https://ils1976namib.travellerspoint.com/
https://ils1976amsterdam.travellerspoint.com/
https://israel1976.travellerspoint.com/
and the same for a random blog by another non-supporting member:
https://thepingriver.travellerspoint.com/
so I suspect that this loads for all non-supporting members. Is it possible that ils1976 was a supporter until recently? In that case, I suspect that the supporting status ending is what made the ads suddenly show up.

I see them on her Israel one but not the others you link to, also on her Australia blog (https://ils1976australia.travellerspoint.com/) - very odd. Also, I thought the 'no ads' things was linked to the supporter status of the member viewing the blog, not the one who wrote it?
