Definition of Visit by Merriam-Webster: 1a : a short stay : call. b : a brief residence as a guest. c : an extended stay : sojourn. 2 : a journey to and stay or short sojourn at a place. Apr 17, 2020

That about covers it all. If you've wandered around a bit, looked at some of the sights, met a few people on the streets and shops, perhaps tried the public transportation and even eaten a meal or two there, it should be a visit. If you rent an apartment and stay a month, it should be a visit. The time involved only contributes to the depth of the experience.

If you have a layover at the airport, it is not a visit. By that definition, I've visited nearly every town with an airport between Miami, Florida and Atlanta, Georgia during the air traffic controllers strike back in the 80s. It was the only way I could get home but not only would I not call those visits, I can't even remember the names of the towns.
