And about predicting where you will be: It just feels like such a constraint in your "no real plan" travel plan. Did the prediction work out well? It's not like you forgot about the package for 2 weeks and only remembered later. Of course you knew you had to get to a certain place around a certain time.

Luckily it was no constraint at all for us. Our "prediction" was based more on the when and not the where - we knew we would be passing through Morelia. It turns out we stayed about two weeks there - Morelia is worth it and then some. :)

If I recall correctly, the delivery was waiting for us, but I cannot remember for how long. We made it to Morelia about three weeks after our friend said he mailed the parcel. Anyway, it was a success.

To be honest I cannot believe it worked out in this case! The Mexican postal service can be terribly slow - we sent postcards to family in Ireland at the end of November 2019, thinking they'd make it by Christmas. The postcards arrived in March - all in one piece, thankfully!!;)

No the deliveries to sailboats are made to land locations near where the boat is. Looking at their current website, I see that they forward mail in one of two ways - either electronically - scan and send the scan on the internet and then shred the actual mail, or forwarding the physical mail. The price ranges between $12 and $30/month depending on how much they do for you. They will do driver's licenses and boat documentation, and they also do this service for visiting doctors and nurses who are moving around a lot and RVers as well as live-aboards who are primarily in marinas.

That sounds like a wide spectrum of services. I've never thought about services for visiting doctors. Can you tell the name or the website?

They also do services for international business travelers and expats. It is St Brendan's Isle https://www.sbimailservice.com/

Sometimes the postal services in some places are not reliable at all. Not just slow, but packages may be stolen. (which happens even in the US but usually not by postal workers - usually it is people stealing packages off a doorstep kind of thing.) I think that is why we had the package sent to us in Nassau by FedEx instead of by mail.

And there is also sometimes a problem with customs. When we were flown from Nassau to Miami after Bob's heart attack, I fortunately remembered to bring the cruising permit with me because when we flew back we had bought some boat parts (engine gaskets IIRC) and I had to have that permit with me to be allowed to bring them in the country.
