The planes of the future?

Aviointeriors Janus design separates passengers with 'shields

Like their other flights of fancy, I'm not convinced we'll ever see this.

The middle-seat-in-reverse version looks unworkable for various reasons. Protruding seatbacks would make entry and exit difficult. Middle and other pax would be face to face at diagonals so actually a higher chance of spreading virus from breath droplets. And the design shown has each pax with armrests inside their plastic shielding - there isn't the width to do this on any economy layout I've ever travelled on - the whole point of this is to keep the number of seats per row as currently, and the width plus armrests is the key metric for that; adding 6 extra armrests on a widebody in 3 3 3 configuration means conjuring up over an extra foot in width which isn't there.

The simpler plastic-side-shields design looks a lot more likely.

The second one seems okay with the panels between passengers. Everyone is crammed into the plane and I suppose any modicum of separation is an advantage. The first one looks ridiculous. That's probably what they'll use . . .

The first design would only work in business or first. It has nice, wide aisles to get in and out but the seats themselves look cheaply made, like someone modified some chairs they bought on clearance sale at Ikea. Plus that posture perfect straight back would not work with anyone with back problems or scoliosis.
