Travel Forums Australia / New Zealand & The Pacific Traveling To Melbourne/Tasmania In Octobrt

My wife and I had to reschedule our trip to Melbourne/Tasmania in May due to travel restrictions caused by COVID-19. We rescheduled the same trip for October 23-November 1 of this year. Does anyone know if there is even a chance that international travel will be allowed in Australia by the end of October? All of the sites I have found say that international travel is banned for the foreseeable future...

Which country are you coming from? There's talk of a trans-Tasman bubble since New Zealand has now got rid of Covid-19 and certain states in Australia are close too but I can't see them letting in any countries that still have active cases. And even now for residents and citizens, anyone coming into NZ at the moment still has a mandatory 14 day quarantine period.

I'm from the USA too and most countries won't let us in at least without a quarantine of 2 weeks just because we've handled the virus situation so badly. With all the protests going on now, the cases are probably going to spike so you are being pretty optimistic thinking you can go in October.

We have reservations in France for October and are holding on to them but without much hope. I'm just not ready to give up on the trip yet. We have a Plan B and you may want to do that too.

I wish you luck.

In Australia we still have states whose borders are closed. I doubt international travel will reopen before domestic. At the moment there is talk of travel bubbles but for now USA is considered a red zone (a country with uncontrolled COVID19 infection). If we open to international travel it probably won't include the USA. I think if you can the best thing to do is to move the trip to next year. I would think next year our borders will be less restrictive.
