Australia + no waves + -401m + that row of pine trees.....

Coogee Bay Beach, NSW?

Alas, no, it's not in NSW.

The "-401m" sign is not a clue. It's an unrelated photo which DAO put up.

The shoreline around the bay does have some similarities to that at Coogee, but the rocks are less stratified, and the beach is about twice as long (eyeballing it, probably not worth calculating meters) :)

And if I'd actually thought before getting all excited about 'solving' it I'd have realised that a) it's a minus sign and b) it's only the Dead Sea that's so far beneath sea level!!

The place that came to mind for me from your first couple of photos was Magnetic Island?

Sorry Leics2!

No, it's not in Queensland either, though there is a "connection" between Magnetic Island and the bay seen in my photos.

The accommodation we stayed at is part of a well known chain.

OK, done a bit of digging and think it may be Horseshoe Bay (there is one on Magnetic Island too) in South West Rocks?

You're very much on the right track, but it's not in NSW, while the only hit for "South West Rocks" that I get is in NSW, so you're not quite there yet.

I suspect not.

All my photos are firmly above sea level, and show the actual sea. The "-401 m" photo was not put up by me, and is not a clue.
