Hi all body
Ihope you are doing well.
I program a road trip to Greece in June 2021
starting from Athens Airport.

  • First step Epidavros, Poros and Hydra.
  • Second step :Messinia, Pylos, Koroni, Ithomi, Dimitsana and Kalavryta
  • Third Step Nafpactos, Galaxidi, Delphi Arachova
  • Fourth step Ioannina, Meteora and Pelion

We planned 6 days exploring the area of Epidavros, Poros and Hydra (we visited Nafplio for some years ago with Mycenes, Mystra, kardamyli, Mani, Monemvassia, but not the West Coast and Messinia

We love being near water and romantic places, nice nightlife, festivals..

Shell we stay in Nafplio or spend 1 night in Nea Epidaurus and continue to Galatas in order to visit Poros and Hydra?

1)- Where do you recommend to stay( in Palaia Epidavros or Nea Epidavros or in Nafplio.

2)- In order to visit Poros and Hydra, do you advice to :

Leave the car in Galatas (is the parking free?) and go to Poros as a foot passenger

Or to cross with car and the next day to Hydra for one night

Or return to Galatas and drive to Ermioni or Metochi to Hydra?.
3)-In order to visit ancient messinia, Pylos, Nestor, Gialova, Ithomi, koroni, finikounda, do you advise to stay in Pylos or to change from town to town? (6 days)

4) Do you recommend to have a stop in karytaina, Dimitsana or Stemnitsa ( 1 night) on the way to kalavryta 1 night . (I will not visit Olympos).

5) My next trip is to go to Galaxidi for 2 nights to
Visit Delphi and Arachova.
Visit Nafpaktos (1 night).

N. B: Is the extended trip to the west of Peloponnese(Messina region) could be replaced from the point of view of nature, archeological sites, coastal and mountain villages by the region of Central and north Greece (Galaxidi, Nafpaktos, Delphi, Arachova, Pelion) or the two regions are very different from each other.

6)- Ioannina ( 3 nights )

7)- Meteora (2 nights)

8)- Pelion (5 days)

Looking forward to suggestions.

There are no cars on Ydra. Only donkeys/mules for transport or on foot.

I have some recommendations for you as I live in Corfu and I have travelled several times the area you want to visit.

I recommend you stay in Nafplio, is a very beautiful city with an amazing castle by the sea and lots of places to see and eat. We stayed at the Chroma Design Hotel and that was fantastic!

Meterora is beautiful but I wouldn't stay there more than one day, it's better if you go somewhere else instead such as Zagorochoria (Ioannina area), rural area with mountains, forests and rivers even to do rafting (such an experience!!). I have stayed in some boutique hotels: -snip- in Zagori. I also know the owners so if you need good prices just let me know.

As you're going to be in the area, why not visiting Corfu for a couple of days? Going by ferryboat it's a bit more than an hour from Igoumenitsa and you will be amazed by the beauty of the coast, the blue emerald colour of the sea, and the lush green landscape full of forests and flowers, but also the incredible Venetian period Old Town and castles. Lots of things to do and different places to enjoy even in a weekend. Let me know if you need some help about this, also accommodation for any budgets and tours as well, I'll be more than happy to help.

Hope this helps, have a great new year!

[ Edit: Sorry, no promos please. ]

Thank you kerkyra for your reply and for yourvhelpful advices and suggestions.I will be grateful if you can help with accommodation in zahorochoria and Ioannina and in any other place.

I agree that Corfu is a very beautiful island. I spent there a week with my wife and my daughter, and I have rented a car and visited the north and the central area? One day excursion to Paxi. We enjoyed a lot our stay there .

The difficulty for my present road trip in mainland and islands is to choose between 2 itineraries, each with 2 options.

My program is to spend 17 days( from 25 June to 12 July) in Mainland + 13 days in 3 islands. Total stay (one month).

A) First itinerary,

Thessaloniki 25-26 June

Vergina, Edessa 27

Kastoria, Prespes lakes 28-29-30

Ioannina 1, 2, 3 july

Zachorochoria (Monodendri (2)and Papingo (1) on
4, 5, 6 July

Parga 7,8 july

Dodoni, Metsovo 9 July

Meteora 10,11 July

Thessaloniki 12 july

Or. Pelion during 4 nights, instead of kastoria, Prespes lakes Metsovo (only a stop) and only 2 nights in Ioannina..

13 July, Fly from Thessaloniki to Syros via Mykonos or Athens , Amorgos and Astypalea.

B) - Second itinerary

Athens - Nafplio 25, 26 June (to visit only epidavros because I visited yet the south Peloponnese (Mani, Laconia) + Mycènes and Mystras.

27,28,29 Pylos, Methoni, Koroni

30 June, Old Messina and dimitsana

1 July kalavryta

2 July, Kalavryta to Nafpaktos.

3-4-5 Parga

6-7 ioannina,

8-9-10 Zagorochoria

11-12 Meteora

13 Return to Athens ( lunch in plastira lake, and overnight in the region of Kamena vourla, to avoid to go straight to Athens Airport as the road is very long.

14 - Continuation to Athens Airport and fligh to Astypalea.

15-16 Astypalea

17-18-19-20-21 Amorgos

22-23-24-25 Syros or Tinos via Naxos

26 Athens.

For the Second itinerary I opted to Messina region and Arcadia instead of Pelion and kastoria.

What do you think?
Which itinerary seems the best for you.

Do you recommend more nights in some places and less in others or to avoid some places.

Thank you in advance
