Selam! : )

Few questions at which would be useful to have an answer concerning Iran for whose travel style is mostly hitchhiking and freecamping.

1) Currently, is it generally safe to hitchhike around Iran? If You think it applies, please provide separate answers divided by category: solo males, solo females, group of females.
2) Currently, are there any parts of the country where is better not to hitchhike independently of ones gender because of risk of kidnapping by terrorists or of getting accidentally shot?
3) Currently, are there any parts of the country where is better to avoid wildcamping independently of ones gender because of risk of terrorist threats while sleeping in own tent?

An answer provided by who is Iranian by roots, or by who currently lives in Iran and hitchhikes around the country, is more appreciated. Thank You for your kind attention and time.

A major consideration is your passport and whether or not you can be vicariously linked to the United States. Some Australians have had issues in the past two years, perhaps, most probably, as a result of the US and Iran political issues.

Dear Friend,
I'm Mojgan and I live in Iran.
1) Currently, is it generally safe to hitchhike around Iran? If You think it applies, please provide separate answers divided by category: solo males, solo females, group of females.

Please note that there is no danger forsolo, female and group travelers but in Iran Hitchhiking is not very popular and people don't do it often.so I recommend you to take a tour or rent a car which will be very cheap due to currency devaluation

2) Currently, are there any parts of the country where is better not to hitchhike independently of ones gender because of risk of kidnapping by terrorists or of getting accidentally shot?

Again Iran is a very safe country despite what they show in media, there is no danger of terrorist attacks or getting shot. Please check the Tripadvisor reviews to see it for yourself. But Sistan and Baluchestan Province is not recommended to go without a tour because its on the border with Pakistan.

3) Currently, are there any parts of the country where is better to avoid wildcamping independently of ones gender because of risk of terrorist threats while sleeping in own tent?

Please consult this with a tour consultant before coming. there is no danger in terms of ones gender but some places may be dangerous due to wild animals.

Hey Adrian
I had a spectacular time in Iran in Jan 2020 however if you are planning to hitchhike be aware that the distances are HUGE and you will probably end up in transport trucks most of the time. I’m from Australia where we are used to long travel days but the distances between towns was a full 8 hours sometimes with very few little stop off towns. They have major highways running between the main cities. Having said that it is a fabulous experience; the people are incredibly friendly, great food and mind blowing culture. Personally I wldnt travel without a small organised tour - it’s a safe place but you need a local. Safe travels 👣
