Hey!

I have flights booked to Colombia just after Xmas and just wanted some advice of what the backpacking situation is at the moment and if there are other travellers there? If anyone has been recently?
Im planning on spending 3 weeks there as a solo female traveller and would be interested to know if I should expect to be on my own for most of the time if there are no other backpackers there?

Thanks all :)

If you haven't already, read up on some specialized facebook groups first and then consider joining some; confusingly, there are two groups called Backpacking Colombia with 17,000 members between them both. You'll very likely get in touch with loads of people already there who can answer your questions.

If your travel plans include more of South America, a broader group like Backpacking South America (50,000 memebers) may be worth considering, too.

Good Luck!:)

Judging by the things said on here, very few people are trying to travel during the pandemic.

Hopefully you've checked out what hoops you need to jump through with regard to providing a recent negative covid test at the airport and for travel within Colombia.

I'd also check the validity of your travel insurance. We looked last week for cover, and in the UK market it doesn't seem possible to get cover that guards you against costs from covid disruption.

We've decided not to travel internationally for now, as the risks are too great of borders closing, outbreaks occurring, flight cancellations, etc.

@ shoegal2112: In the European Union is possible to travel, but this year seeing backpackers around was really rare. In the city where I am currently based, which is one among the top 5 most touristic cities in all Europe and probably in the top 10 of all cities around the planet, usually there is no season and no day without seing at least few backpackers around and there is also a hostel for backpackers, Wombat which is usually always full, but now is closed because there are actually likely close to zero backpackers around. I am a backpacker too, and seing the way things are currently, is likely You will be mostly by yourself.

@adrian - Thanks for your response. Is this Colombia in South America that you are referring to?

The link to the hostel (Wombat) that you shared seems to be in Europe.

Thanks!

Yes, the "Colombia" I referred to is a country in South America that borders Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil and Panama, and yes the hostel that I mentioned is in Europe.
For your trip, in order to best enjoy it, it may prove wise to carry only the necessary objects with You and leave at home what You don't really need or that is not possible to be used for many purposes.

Ah! Okay, just a little confusing posting a hostel in Europe when I am looking at the travel situation in Colombia. Thanks all the same!

Just a note that we generally hope to see content created here rather than directing people to other sites. Adding external links will often prompt a post to be flagged as promotional, because most times they are indeed spam.

In the case of the packlist being suggested above, there's already a great packlist page here on TP.
