After 1. Great idea
After 2. I think it should depend on whether you are more of a loner type or like having a companion. I think that traveling alone and traveling with someone has its own individual atmosphere. On the one hand, it's fun to share adventures with someone, it's always more fun and you know that someone will help you, and on the other hand, traveling alone teaches you great responsibility.
I do not know if I helped, but I keep my fingers crossed for the trip to be successful

yes you’ve been helpful thanks, I am both a loner and not if that makes sense, I like my time alone and I also like being with someone I guess maybe going alone would be the best option I can make friends along the way and when I want to be alone I guess I can just drift off to the next place. I think it would be more the evenings when I’ve stopped doing the sightseeing and stuff and want to have food and drink when I would most like to be not alone

Traveling alone has many advantages and you'll find that if you reach out to those you meet you're likely to make many new friends.

I traveled the route you plan to take. I took the train from Krakow to Lviv, then on the advice of friends in Ukraine, I flew from Lviv to Kyiv. Flights from Kyiv to London are reasonable.

While in Lviv, don't miss a visit to this:

Ukraine is one of my favorite countries. I'm eager to return.

I would agree with some of the other posts - 3 people is ideal in my mind as it is a fun approachable number in places like hostels. If you are good at striking up conversations, it is a good experience to try a solo leg but it can be lonely at times when you're just on a train or waiting in lines. The best moments are the ones that are shared!
