Hi everyone! :)) I am a young solo traveller applying for the Special Tourist Visa for Thailand at the moment and looking at booking a flight for mid April 2021...just wondering whether there are many tourists/travellers there at the moment and are the hostels open?
It is so important to me to meet other travellers when I'm away as I don't want to be alone!
Thank you very much :)

I wouldn't be travelling at the moment due to the pandemic.

As far as I can tell, Thailand are still requiring arrivals to carry out 14 days quarantine at your own expense.

Then you would have to consider the risks of catching covid. Most travel insurance seems not now to cover it, or disruption to your plans if the restrictions vary.

My advice is to NOT purchase plane tickets and book hotels until you know for sure that you can visit without quarantine. I would expect that accommodation would be reasonable once tourist visits sort of return to normal again.

As for your question "just wondering whether there are many tourists/travelers there at the moment and are the hostels open?" Answer - NO! Right now tourism is an all-time record low! Difficult to get in and many hotels closed down. If you do visit - and are willing to stay in quarantine - those hotels are not cheap. Quarantine means you alone in a hotel room for 14-15 days.

Google type search will give you some links to look over. (Sample below.)

You may have to prove you have received the Covid 19 injections before leaving your own country airport.

I think you would be very lucky to travel without special requirements by Christmas season. Some countries may have additional restrictions on entering Thailand. If you fill in some of your profile information some of your info will be more specific for your country.

Will send you a link for additional travel advice.

Hello,
I would recommend to check the travel policies or guidelines of Thailand. It will help you to know about the traveling guideline for the tourists.

The requirements for a Special Tourist Visa appear to be stringent. Suggest you contact the Thai embassy for details. Here are the requirements for U.S. citizens from the Royal Thai Embassy:

Please note some of the following requirements for a Special Tourist Visa:

Medical insurance guaranteeing that the insurance company will cover a minimum of 100,000 USD (or equivalent in other currencies) of medical costs incurred by the applicant in Thailand, including medical costs in the event that the applicant contracts COVID-19 (The insurance must cover the entire duration of stay in Thailand)

A confirmed reservation of 15 nights of Alternative State Quarantine (ASQ) (Please check the list of the alternative state quarantine hotels at www.hsscovid.com or www.thaiembdc.org/asq)

Evidence of long-stay accommodation: either

A fully-paid hotel reservation in Thailand for the whole duration of intended stay in Thailand (after the 14-day quarantine). The reservation must be issued by the hotel showing the duration of stay, and hotel’s contact details and tax ID number;
A fully-paid residential lease in Thailand for the whole duration of intended stay in Thailand (after the 14-day quarantine). The lease must be issued by the lessor showing the duration of stay, and the lessor’s contact details and tax ID number;
A hire-purchase or mortgage agreement of immovable property; OR
Condominium title deed.

My first trip overseas was a solo trip to Thailand! Where in Thailand are you planning to go?
