I think, I know the route by google maps and videos of the area.

I've found how to get to all the turns and sign posts to take me as far as King Barrow Ridge from the hotel I've found, and the sign post there tells people the rest of the way.

I also wonder if walking along the A303 is an option, less scenic, but easier to navigate and seems just as far and I've yet to see how booking.com and Wiltshire call it 2 miles away and 2 miles by foot when signs on the ground say 3 and 4 miles whatever route I find.

Get an Ordnance Survey map of the area. OS maps show all rights of way and are truly excellent for exploring. Your local library might have the Stonehenge area to borrow, some good bookshops stock them (e.g. Waterstones) or you can order paper maps online (complete with free mobile download) or pay a monthly subscription for the mobile version for the whole of the UK:

https://shop.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/

I'd be lying if I said I heard of that before.

Do they look like regular maps?

I tried looking for a free one, seemed choc-full of pop ups, and the idea of subscribing to it for 1 trip, and me wanting to keep cost down, IDK, thank you for the link, but, can I find one online for free maybe?

What can those survey maps do that a map showing the footpaths for tourists can't, I just wonder.

I might google Amesbury Stonehenge Tourist Map and try my luck and see if I recognise any paths from research into the by foot option.

Not going to lie, the High Street in Amesbury didn't look as fun as I thought it would on Google Maps when trying to figure out how to get to Tesco, and it just didn't float my boat, BUT... I just have to keep in mind that it's for the world heritage site around the corner and not about the town.
But I almost cancelled when I saw the Tesco and the high street and things, IDK.
Seems like a lot of bratty kids in the area too, but I hope not.

Free paper map ordered online at that link that says shop.ordancesurvey you say?
Interesting... I'd see how free and for the area I need they can get.

I found this just now, again with the 2 mile claim I've yet to see how it's possible to do from a place that signs say is 3 and 4 miles away.

I see a free OS Map that's a start and answers one question about from King Barrow Ridge to Stonehenge I had.
I'd just have to triple check where my hotel is in relation to that.

I've no idea what you mean by 'regular' maps. OS maps are detailed and tell you everything you need to know about an area. They are the best maps to use when exploring any part of the UK.

>Free paper map ordered online at that link that says shop.ordancesurvey you say?

I said no such thing. When people take the time to respond you could at least read my their posts properly. I said you get a free mobile download when you buy a paper map.

>I found this just now, again with the 2 mile claim I've yet to see how it's possible to do from a place that signs say is 3 and 4 miles away.

That's because you don't understand about public footpaths. Distances on signs are given for road travel. Public footpaths usually take a much shorter route than roads.

Amesbury has no more 'bratty kids' than Thornton Heath, Croydon or anywhere else in the UK. Don't be so judgemental.

The sign on the foot path near Stonehenge says 3 miles, why'd you think I'd believe Google or anyone over that sign on the footpath that says 3 miles?
And that sign also says Amesbury 1 mile (in the other direction), IDK how people can say 2 miles when on the ground signs say 3.

Amesbury looks like a dud, to me, and maybe I'd cancel and just day trip it out and take the Salisbury Solstice busses instead and cancel the hotel as I thought it'll be a nice little village, not betting shop dullsville UK with according to the OS map , a trailer park near by in a place that's got nothing for me than a bed, I have a bed and Clapham's like an hour away, and it'll save me money not needing Amesbury as a base.

I'm still deciding whether or not to ditch Amesbury and the hike and just do what any self respecting Londoner would do and take the train, the bus, and come home again, since apparently, they call it close to London (I have my doubts) but, if that's what they say, I could do it from mine, save money and not even bother with Amesbury.

IDK...

Maybe I'm being harsh, and the town isn't so bad to be based at.

Has a lot of watering holes, plus.
Has convenience of being UK businesses around being branches of things I use, plus.
Has places to eat and independent shops some of which have caught my eye, plus.
Plus I get a hike and maybe country air.

I just hope I don't regret it.

But I can cancel anytime I want for free up to days before my stay.

So I saw the room I booked for when I booked £20.00 cheaper on another platform (mobile discount) for using my phone, booked it, cancelled my original; same hotel, same room, same dates, but £20.00 cheaper and a new confirmation code/booking with my original booking in Amesbury cancelled for free.
So my hotel/room/dates; everything is the same, but, I just booked 'the last one' and then cancelled my existing booking and saved myself £20.00 for doing it on my phone.
If I go (still can cancel for free up until 3 days of using the place), I get to see Stonehenge and Amesbury; which, even if I don't like the place, still seems like an experience to me.

I also saw someone in Whitby had cancelled on the first night I wanted to go, so I snapped it up just now (as it was in budget and not a bad room or location) and I've now got my 3 wanted original nights in Whitby (at 3 locations).
So I can wake up in Whitby on Halloween and enjoy any festivities rather than arrive on Halloween after sun down late in the shopping day Sunday and last day of that festive weekend.

I know, this means I won't arrive into Whitby 10 minutes (it was close) after sun down on Halloween (which would have been totally awesome and poetic maybe/random bonus of my first plan), but it does mean I get wake up in Whitby on Halloween and enjoy whatever's open until early on Halloween now rather than miss out for travelling up from London that day (and of course, this means more time in Whitby/an extra day in fact).

Okay, I've just signed up for and registered a Smartcard in York waving a £2.00 fee and promising to send me a free Smartcard I can load at York Station upon arrival for the bus I need for a York - Whitby return which is now thanks to the Smartcard some £2 or £3 cheaper for being contactless payment.

Earlier, I did the same thing for Amesbury, I went to Salisbury Reds, and ordered (for free) a card calling itself The Key for Wiltshire...
However, to load money on to that one, I have to pay online and wait 3 hours before I can travel.

The only reason I'm bothering to do this is because, my contactless bank card might be faulty, as it seems to work everywhere, every mode of transportation but the bus, here.
...
And, I did rely on it for Amsterdam and it failed me (so I know now not to chance it) and I had £0 or minus on my Osyter Card at the time (or left it at home, I forget, I just made the mistake of thinking that things would work as they should and things would always go to plan) and the bus driver wouldn't let me ride and my card wasn't working and my friend I was travelling with had to bail me out scaring me on my bank because I told them I left the country only to find it work at Brixton and everywhere else and it reminded me of another time I had problems with it on the local busses here, so my card may be faulty for working on busses
- I don't want to chance it even or find it not work on a bus I need up in York or out in Salisbury - even if if they accept cash, the contactless rate is better with this Oyster Card Smartcard/The Key (I call them Oyster Cards) and; it's just easier for me; swap out my Oyster Card while I'm on the train going for the respective card to use on the local busses where I'm going to (and to put my Oyster Card away somewhere safe until I need it again) and use it like it was my Oyster Card until I return and swap it back out for my Oyster Card/simples... Not only have I ordered them, but I've also learned where to top them up and how much I need to top them up with to get from the train stations to the hotels in North Yorkshire and Wiltshire; and, they should be arriving in the post ready for me to top up and use... Of course before actually going, I'll double check the fares needed as there's an election in May and up and down the country local authorities may raise travel fares/who knows? So, I'd of course check just before going how much the fare is then too.
