i am allmost 58 and i work 7 nights a week week in week out then take my 5 weeks a/l and go somewhere. every 3 yrs when i have the money i give up my job and take a longer trip south america or the silk rd across china. what i9 will say is that i hope you are not still doing it when you are my age . as there are no other old folk still at it you will allways be alone at home and away. relationships are a no no and you will be considered really weird as no one will be able to relate to you. you will end up very impecunious. as you get older young folk that you meet along the way will just see you asa sad old git who ought to be in benidorm. it is an addiction like drugs or alcahol . i do hope you soon go on a rehab programme or you will end up like me . peace and love an ageing hippy

Hi there Lanchutt!

Before I left to Australia in autumn 2003 I worked 5 days a week,8 hours a day(real-estate customer servant)+cleaning work for 4 hours a week at night time after the day work!I was pretty tired but it wasn't too bad because I knew that the money I'd get from all that could take me to otherside of the world!!Now I'm working as a part-time in IKEA and saving up for another trip.I work minimum 10 hours per week. It's not much but I'm studying at the same time.

Working like a mad man to save up for a trip is not a problem if you know what you want. I once worked from 7 a.m. to 11 pm for 9 months to save up for a trip ...that lasted two years and took me all over Europe and Central Asia. If you are working like crazy, you don't have time to spent the money you should be saving either. Keep a map or poster on your wall to remind you of the reward. I don't have a television, commuted by bike for six months, and live in a clean, but non-fabulous place is preparation for my next trip - a month in China, riding the rails, learning the language. Even if you don't see your chums for a time because your working too much, when you come back from your trip, you won't be ousted, they'll all want to hear about your wonderful adventures.

On Tway's recommendation, I ordered a copy of Rolf Pott's "Vagabonding". It arrived today! I just had a quick flick through it and I'm really looking forward to reading. He seems to have some great tips and advice.

Ill post anything interesting I come across.

Stay tuned.

I am trying to come up with some hair-brained scheme to make money off ebay. Some person is selling their friendship and the current bidding is at £51! I might try it!

I got about 7 weeks left to save up enough money to go to california for a couple weeks and have money for my school in the fall. Its gonna be intense but im asking my manager at work today if i can pick up any extra jobs if i dont work 7 days this week. I work as a cook. I really don't mind working though because it will be worth it in the end!:)
