Hi all,

I have an option to relocate to one of two locations and have troubles to choose.

I am between staying in Europe and relocating to Barcelona.
Have been thinking about getting a place in Sitges.

I can also choose USA and relocate to LA.. have been thinking to stay in West Hollywood.

How would you compare those two? Which one is better and in what ways, WeHo vs Sitges?

I am 32 years old and am looking for a place with quiet streets and lots of greenery, however want to have bars/clubs/social stuff just couple of streets away
Also, both places seem quite close to BCN and LA centers, so it is possibly easy to move around?
I am a fan of great climate, ocean, pools, sun, palms and nature. At the same time I need everything by hand - bars, cafes, shops, people, etc.

Thanks for the help!

What country passport will you enter with?

Are you on your own as a tourist? Or you have a job location change?

For me, Barcelona would be a better place to visit for a holiday. (I have been to Barcelona many years ago and had a good time.)

I think Barcelona would be cheaper than Los Angeles.

Come on back.

Barcelona has good local public transport. LA doesn't. Barcelona has bus and train connections throughout Europe. LA doesn't.

Definitely. You can compare the cost of living on the links below. Over the years I've found it to be a pretty accurate reflection of local prices. You can change the currency display for a location to get a direct comparison in e.g. euro or GBP.

You might also want to take crime into account. West Hollywood has one of the highest crime rates in the US.

Those two places are extremely different on many levels. Unless you have spent time in Los Angeles and know that you like it there I strongly recommend staying in Europe. I personally love Los Angeles as a place to visit but many people report being disappointed with it as a place to live. I don't think Barcelona has a similar reputation.

Thanks for your comment! Would you be able to compare and contrast those two on those levels?
I know that meanwhile West Hollywood looks rather central to LA, Sitges is quite out of the central urban area, something like Malibu in LA's world.

Have not lived in any of those, not sure how they compare in terms of accessibility to things, housing, quality of life, etc..

It's a totally different culture. LA is a melting pot with Anglo, Mexican, and Asian influences and no dominant culture. Barcelona is quintessentially Spanish, although cosmopolitan. LA is much grittier and urban, Barcelona is more elegant and historic. In LA you are helpless without a car and frequently frustrated when inside one. Barcelona and Sitges are manageable by foot and with public transportation. Both have access to the ocean and interesting hiking/sports terrain. I think Barcelona wins unless a) you are bored with Europe or b) are fascinated by American, Mexican, or Asian culture. The decision is very individual. I recommend going to YouTube for videos about moving to LA, you will get better advice than from travelers who have skewed perspectives on places they have only visited.

West Hollywood is a separate city from LA and not a cheap city to live in unless you were lucky enough to snag a rent controlled house or apartment. It is where the Sunset Strip is located and has a strong gay community and nightlife.

Poster #1 asked important questions like will you have a job and what is your nationality? Will you have a car or be getting one (you will need one pretty much).
