Hi there, one question guys, do you watch traveling videos before planning a trip, what's is the online place where you'll gather your informations from?
Thank you!

>do you watch traveling videos before planning a trip,

No.

>what's is the online place where you'll gather your informations from

I would never use just one 'online place'. Googlemaps, Skyscanner, Travellerspoint, Booking.com, the *official* train and bus websites for wherever I'm visiting, the *official* sites for e.g. museums and occasionally the *official* tourist information website for the location in which I'm based.

Voting with leics2 here: I almost never use online videos to plan our trips. Just as she has noted, I use the same combination of official resources plus books plus input from individuals, such as herself, whom are clearly well traveled and have no monetary benefit from their online advice.

There are some online exceptions, such as the blogs of individuals whom have been doing it for a long time, and whom have proven themselves as trustworthy resources as they might live, at least part-time, in the places they write about.

Then you're missing at lot! Understand that many of us here started traveling in the pre-internet years where all we HAD were books. Were our trips lacking because of that? Nope. Maybe a little more complicated to book and research but the net has its pitfalls too. Videos can overpromise the benefits of a destination, or appeal only to a certain age group. For instance, I could care less about night life so a video heavy on bars and nightclubs would go right over my head.

You also can't cover all the bases as far as what a traveler might be interested in, what they can physically be able to manage, and what they have to spend on accommodation/meals/transport in a few youtube videos.

That's true, I've had the misfortune to taste from the over promising expectations, but I will n try to use other methods from now on, thank you again for your advice 🙏🙂

>mostly I watch videos on YouTube

When you watch a YouTube video:

a) Remember that all such videos are advertising...the location, the hotel, the activities, the person who made the video. They're not giving you the full picture or the full facts.

b) You see the location only from the point of view of just one or one group of people

c) There is always an agenda underlying the content and editing (e.g. to promote a location, to target a specific demographic or just to get YouTube hits)

d) You can never be certain that you have seen or heard about all the relevant facts, issues and potential issues.

And that's why you've 'had the misfortune to taste from the over promising expectations'.

You'll have better and far more enjoyable trips if you spend time doing your own research using official websites, reliable internet sources (not YouTube, Insta, TikTok or whatever), googlemaps and google Streetview, asking questions on long-established travel forums such as Travellerspoint...... and maybe even read some hard-copy guidebooks!
