Hello, I am new to this site and I want to build my confidence to be ready to go travelling. I want to find a group of people that may want to travel along with me. I am in the UK so it make sense they are here too.

I don't know if this is the right place to come to ask but thought I would check.

Also I'd love people to recommend where to go.

Hi Naomih, welcome to the site.

When looking for people to travel with, they usually look at your profile to get an idea whether you're a similar age to them, any interests in common, etc. So do fill out your profile a bit.

Re: where to go. That's such a wide open question. Help us narrow it down a bit - what sort of things do you want to see? Beaches, cities, mountains, forests, architecture, nightlife, museums, theatre, other cultures?

As mentioned above have a look around the profiles here and try to create a bond with people, chit chat here and there and see how you like the person.

Nothing worst than spending something so beautiful as holidays with people you do not connect.

For travel you need time and money. Don't count on going to a faraway country and easily get a legal job to support your visit. (Although I do read that there are ways that being from the UK - Australia and NZ might be easier to get a job. Work and travel.)

You need a passport too if you do not have one now.

I find it helpful to have more than one credit card and a couple debit cards. Debit cards usually mean money in the bank! Probably a good idea to have medical - travel insurance. Who knows, perhaps some pandemic will come up and you will be stranded overseas. (That could never happen - right! )

Since you are looking for experience to build confidence - instead of looking for people to go with you why not look for groups for you to go with? Maybe one or two trips to get your feet wet.

This forum has lot of "do it yourself" travelers. There are some well known travel forums who have more "shared" travel group tours. Then there are some "volunteer" type travel groups you can look into too. You know, work a little bit to save the world, work on archeology projects, work with animals, etc. You choose what to do this with a group of people who you could possibly meet on future trips. When I was still employed and had more money I did 3 trips with Earthwatch. It was okay, got used to spending my money for things like hotels, food, travel. (Previously with my long term government job had a lot of overseas travel when I was younger. No worry about where to eat, no worry about accommodation or medical, etc.)

Where to go can depend on time of year. (Weather, time off from your job, swimming or snow skiing, etc.) Some people want to party hearty with lots of nightlife, some want to visit historical sites, some want to visit long lost relatives in foreign countries. Some people looking for cheaper places to visit vs some expensive countries. Got a lot of money everything is up for grabs!

Up to you. Google type searches with your computer might be useful. A shared tour or two could be helpful to break the ice.
