Suggest you consult the following:

I traveled the Blue Ridge Parkway in early October 2020 and only some of the leaves had changed colors. But the colors were at or near peak in the mountains of nearby West Virginia. The following was part of my itinerary from Atlanta:

Three nights in Asheville, including a visit to the Biltmore Estate.
One night in Boone
One night in Roanoke
One night in Front Royal
Two nights in Davis, West Virginia, including visits to Blackwater Falls State Park, the Canaan Valley (both the National Wildlife Refuge and the Resort) and the Dolly Sods Wilderness.

I have not done this trip in the fall. You don't say when in October you will travel and that might make a difference. The leaves here in Maryland have only begun to turn a little bit (Oct 8) as it has been unseasonably warm this year - we are farther north, but at a lower elevation. We have had no cold snap even in the mountains to cause the leaves to change color. We would leave to go south in the winter at the end of October and the leaves in the coastal areas had begun to change - they would have been farther along in the mountains of course.

The views are great in any case - even if the leaves are still green.
