insure and go. Youre not wanting to include america, so you can get "backpacker gold" with no excess for £225, or with excess (60 quid)for £205 or with double excess (dont bother - 120 quid) for £153. I did mine over the phone, got the policy in post in 3 days and you get a cool little silver credit card thing too with phone numbers on it and discounts!

A bit more than 20 pounds per month doesn't sound too bad. The main thing to look for is what exactly is covered! Cheap travel insurances generally cover less too, that's not always what the person buying is after either.

Here's a travel insurance comparison chart that Peter and me did up a few months ago. There were also some posts about people who chose the insureandgo travel insurance and were happy with it not too long back. I think between the four of those insurances, you should be able to get a good idea on what's out there, what it costs and what it covers. Peter swears by world nomads it seems and he books his tickets with STA; must be a reason for that :)

I don't use any of these, but that's because I haven't been on a long trip in a while and my year round insurance covers me for the shorter ones...
