I am planning on travelling across SE Asia this summer, starting in Thailand, but haven't had the COVID-19 Vaccine.

I'm just wondering how possible this is going to be with the current situation in these countries?

Do you have evidence of a medical exemption, or are you unvaccinated by choice?

Unvaccinated by choice

Not at all easy.

Even if you have a valid medical exemption which is accepted by the country concerned you'll obviously be considered unvaccinated. That means you'll have to enter formal quarantine on arrival (at your own expense). Imo, it is very unlikely that any country will lift its quarantine requirements for unvaccinated travellers this year.

As examples: Thailand requires unvaccinated travellers to enter formal quarantine for a minimum of 7 days, Vietnam and Cambodia require unvaccinated travellers to enter formal quarantine for a mimimum of 14 days, Laos requires all travellers to enter formal quarantine for a minimum of14 days regardless of vaccine status.....

If you are a UK citizen you can find detailed entry requirements for all countries, including Covid entry requirements, on this official site:

https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice

Imo, if you want to travel this year and don't have a valid medical exemption you should arrange to be vaccinated as soon as possible.

Or just go to countries that don't require quarantine for unvaccinated, that's what I'm doing

Unfortunately this is how it is right now and won't change anytime soon

I am looking for these for a friend of mine. She has difficulties getting a health certificate because her heart condition isn't severe enough, but she refused the vaccines because she was afraid of all the side-effects of which death is one of them. Do you have a clue where to go besides Scandinavian countries at the moment. She was thinking of going to Mexico in the summer, but wasn't sure you could get in without a vaccination certificate.

Well I've booked to go to jordan, Egypt, Cyprus and Turkey for now

Mexico allows unvaccinated in. All info on entry requirements for every country can be found on the fcdo

Thanks Matt, I have given her some details already. Glad to hear that I was right about Mexico, now she can look into that a bit further. Might I add that your destinations are amazing as well!

I just hope that in the near future we can travel again without having to look up all sorts of things like this. For now we have to cope with it I am afraid.

Yeah for now this is how it is for the time being and will be like this for some to come I think

Ils, by 'fcdo' Matt means this (very useful) UK government website:

https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice

It does indeed detail 'ordinary' and Covid-specific entry requirements for all countries but primarily for UK citizens. In some circumstances (e.g. EU citizens visiting EU countries) the info won't be accurate.

Nevertheless, it's a useful site for you to get an idea of what countries might be an option for your friend.
