I'm having problems this morning with my photo uploads. They upload correctly but when I edit and save them I get an error message. I tried going around again to edit them from my list of photos but got the same message. Is it just me or are others experiencing the same problems?
Editing photos
Any chance of a reply to this query? I'm still unable to edit uploaded photos and therefore can't proceed with the post I'd started to write.
I can edit photos just fine (that is, I tried changing the date on an existing photo, and the save worked).
What is the exact error message you get?
Have you tried narrowing down what all gives an error? Only newly uploaded photos? Only when you try to edit more than one photo at once? Could there be something specific in the location/title/tags (e.g. special characters) that's causing an error, so you can work around it by not using that?
Thanks so much Sander. I had a close look at the location that had come up when I started to type and there was an odd character (an 'i' with an accent above it instead of a dot). By moving the pin a tiny bit on the map I was able to get it to work.
For future reference, the error message in full read:
"There was an error.
There has been an unidentified error. A report of this error has been sent to us via email.
Return to the home page
Report this error in the System Talk Forum
Contact us (please let us know what steps you took before the error)"
Glad you got it to work! To help Peter debug the underlying error, could you link to the photo that gave the error, and/or give the location name with the not-i that caused (?) this problem?
This is the location: Místico Arenal Hanging Bridges, 2km este de la represa del Lago Arenal, La Fortuna de, Provincia de Alajuela, La Fortuna, 21007, Costa Rica. The odd character is the first 'i', quite hard to spot!
And this is the photo, now successfully edited: https://www.travellerspoint.com/photos/stream/photoID/5984750/users/ToonSarah/
Confirmed that it's the location that causes the error, but it turns out to be the length of the location name (140 characters) that causes the error, not the í.
@Peter: I suspect you at some point upgraded from a MySQL version which silently truncates text that's longer than the column is set up for, to a version which throws an error, without having a function in between to do the truncating in code?

That's odd because this one https://www.travellerspoint.com/photos/stream/photoID/5985159/users/ToonSarah/ seems to have an equally long address (I haven't counted the characters though!) and works fine.
And I have no idea why that posted twice! But I've now counted and actually the second one is significantly shorter, so ignore me! But thanks so much for your help Sander
