Planning a round the world, but really keen on doing at least one stretch by cargo ship. Has anyone got info or done this yet?

Also anyone recommend a particular agency vs airline alliance to book RTW ticket with?

That is a pretty niche form of travel. I would suggest maybe posting in this forum that is a little more specialised in your area of question:
Freighter and Other Non Traditional Cruise Travel

Cargo ship travelling sounds exciting! I've never done anything like that but I'm sure it's lots o fun. Are there any ways to do it legally or it's always a game of chance and playing with law?

HI Cognizant,

yes sounds fun, but also read that it can be boring if you don't being diary and enjoy reading. Not much internet on board and if, then very expensive. I've decided against it for now, as found out you have to be super flexible on dates leaving and arriving and that doesn't tie in well with booking accomodation and flight tickets.

Apparently it's quite the thing - as long as you are flexible and have time - there are several agancies that specialize in that. Several big shipping lines now offer some cabins for paying customers (not cheap!)

Maybe when hubbie's retired ;)

HI Cognizant,

yes sounds fun, but ...

Hi Pitica, thank you for the details! As I imagine it now, it could be a rather annoying adventure. Perhaps it's worth it only for short distances but for a long way I'd prefer plane or, if I had more money, a comfortable liner =)
