Hello,

I'm a new(ish) traveler who is currently in college and am on track to study abroad this upcoming fall in Jonkoping, Sweden. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for weekend excursions both in Sweden and within the region (Scandanavia and Northern Europe). I'll be there for the entire semester so hopefully, I'll be able to get a lot of places checked off (and will have a range of flexibility if some spots are better suited for different seasons due to me being there for half a year).

Thanks!

~Kyler

I assume you'll be using public transport to explore?

Jönköping has a train station. Train times, details and fares in English on the official Swedish railway website:

https://www.sj.se/en/home.html#/

There are also long-distance bus operators such as Flixbus and Ybuss as well as local buses (https://www.jlt.se/)

It might be a good idea to make the longer journeys at the beginning of your stay, making the most of the better weather and longer daylight hours. I suggest you start with the obvious: Stockholm, Göteborg, Malmo and then move on to e.g. Oslo & Copenhagen (with a side-trip by train to Roskilde)...maybe even Hamburg or Berlin if time and funds allow.
