Hi again
Is there a way to "pin" blog entries to the top of the list?
E.g. with links to websites / sat tracking site / Google Maps link; etc?
Thanks
Marc

There are two ways to do this, and a third way which I think would better suit your needs:
1) have the blog in regular "newest first" order, and change the "posting date" of your "pinned" post to the "present" whenever you post another newer blog entry. That will cause it to show up at the top again. (Sadly this does require some manual work whenever you publish a new entry, and you can't set it to a far future date to keep it at the top, as that would cause it to be hidden until said future date.)
2) have the blog in "oldest first" order, and put these things in your first post.
However, if the entire contents of this blog entry consists of useful links, then you can instead
3) use the manage -> links functionality to simply add these links to the sidebar of your blog, where they will show permanently. (I am not 100% certain if this feature is available for new members, since it might've been limited to "full members" and above in order to keep spam abuse down? But try it - and otherwise, you should hit full member relatively swiftly once you start blogging regularly.)

Great thanks very much Sander
(I will start as a paying subscriber when things start moving - for now I'm still feeling my way around)
OK it works perfectly in the LINKS feature
